When I visit schools, I like to show off my library card because the library is one of the coolest places on earth! Where else can you walk into a building and walk out with hundreds- even thousands- of materials for FREE? You can't do that at Toys-R-Us. Nope. Forget about Blockbuster Video. No way. You'd get in lots of trouble if you tried to leave without paying. But the library is FREE! F-R-E-E! Yippee! Grab some books, CDs, DVDs,...go ahead! Enjoy them and return them when you're finished. The library gives you THE POWER! The Power to learn about new worlds. The Power to learn about different people. The Power to escape from your world and into other worlds. The Power to learn how to cook. The Power to learn how to garden. The Power to visit another country without getting on a plane. Yep! All true. You don't need money. (No kidding!) Not a dime. My mission is to have every kid in America get his/her own card...even if I have to do it ONE KID AND ONE CARD AT A TIME! Once you have it, have someone take a picture of you and your card. Stand tall. Be proud. Your library card is the most important thing you'll ever own. Send me your picture with your card and I'll post it right here using your first name only. If your parents don't have a card and you convince them to get one, I'll post their pics, too.
